FINANCIAL MARKETS : CURRENCY : Dollar Advances in Cautious Trading
The dollar moved higher against most major foreign currencies in light trading although traders continued to worry about interest rates.
Analysts said the dollar continued to recover from a midday decline Friday.
The dollar put in a mixed performance against the British pound. In New York, the pound rose to $1.8033 from late Friday’s $1.8005, but in earlier London trading, sterling fell to $1.8040 from $1.8055 late Friday.
The dollar was unchanged against the Japanese yen in New York, closing at 148.15 yen. In Tokyo, the dollar rose to 148.43 yen from 147.42 yen at Friday’s close, and it was quoted in London at 148.05 yen.
