NAMES IN THE NEWS : Cocker Will Star in Fire Benefit
SANTA BARBARA — Rock ‘n’ roller Joe Cocker, who lives less than a mile from neighborhoods ravaged by a June fire that destroyed more than 400 homes, will give a benefit performance with Pat Benatar for fire victims.
The “With a Little Help For Our Friends” concert was scheduled for July 31 at the Santa Barbara County Bowl.
“Many of my neighbors and friends, people I have known for years, have been hurt by this tragedy,” Cocker said Monday. “Some of them risked their lives fighting the fire, and I want to return something to them. . . . If I can do that with my music, I will.”
Cocker’s best-known recordings include “With a Little Help From My Friends,” “The Letter” and “Delta Lady.”
