Hot Wire Burns 2 Theft Suspects
Two San Fernando Valley men were burned, one seriously, when they tried to steal copper wire from a live electric transformer in Santa Clarita on Tuesday, police said.
Steve A. Lambardo, 25, of Sylmar and James A. Lorner, 24, of Northridge were injured about 4 p.m. when they attempted to remove copper wire from the Southern California Edison consumer substation on Bouquet Canyon Road, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Peters.
Lorner was in serious condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital on Tuesday night as doctors searched for space at an area burn center, Peters said. Lambardo was treated at the hospital and released to police.
The two men and a third person authorities said was involved, Shelia Panzer, 24, of Northridge, were arrested on charges of attempted grand theft, felony vandalism and trespassing.
