Roseanne Anthem Won’t Be for Laughs
SAN DIEGO — Although she’s known for comedy, Roseanne Barr has agreed to sing the national anthem before the second game of the Padres-Reds doubleheader Wednesday at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.
Barr was asked to sing the anthem by Tom Werner, the Padres’ managing general partner and producer of Barr’s ABC television series “Roseanne,” to celebrate Working Women’s Day at the stadium.
Ron Seaver, Padres promotion director, said he expects Barr to do a competent job of singing the anthem.
“I know that she wouldn’t embarrass herself,” Seaver said. “If she didn’t think that she could do a good job, she would not have accepted Tom Werner’s offer.”
The first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader begins at 5:05 p.m.
