The Art of Garbo: The public which Greta Garbo held at arm’s length in a lifetime she dedicated to being “left alone” will now have a chance to buy her artworks, furniture and rare books. Sotheby’s New York announced it will sell Garbo’s art collection, including paintings by Renoir and Bonnard, and her 18th-Century furniture, carpets and ceramic figures in three days of sales starting Nov. 15. Sotheby’s officials expect the sale to bring in more than $20 million. Garbo died April 15 at age 84. The Swedish-born actress performed in 27 movies, including “Anna Christie,” “Mata Hari” and “Grand Hotel.” She retired in 1941.
