Carl Williams knocked out Melton Bowen in the fifth round of a scheduled 12-round bout between the two heavyweights in Atlantic City, N.J.
Williams, defending his United States Boxing Assn. title and fighting for the first time in a year since losing in the first round to then-champion Mike Tyson, improved to 23-3 with 18 knockouts. Bowen is 16-2 with 13 knockouts.
