Clarke, Burnham Finish 6th in International Track Meet
Melanie Clarke of Valley College placed sixth in the long jump and former Rio Mesa High sprint standout Angela Burnham was sixth in the 100 meters in the International Junior Summer Games in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday.
Clarke, the state junior college and The Athletics Congress junior national champion in the heptathlon, leaped 18 feet 2 3/4 inches, more than two feet behind winner Juliana Yendork(20-4 1/4) of West Covina.
Burnham, now running for UCLA, ran 11.77 seconds in a race in which 0.05 seconds separated the third- through sixth-place finishers. Burnham’s mark was well off her personal-best of 11.28.
Nikole Mitchell of Jamaica won the race in 11.51.
