FIGHTING WORDS
I have worked with Filipinos for more than a decade, and I find them to be a lovely and charming people. Recently I have been working in a situation where the staff is 95% Filipino. I now know what it is like to feel like a minority person. I can’t tell you how alienating it can feel to be sitting at a table while everyone else is talking and laughing in another language without visible regard for your presence.
I am not racist, and I do not think that people in this country should be forced to speak a common language. All I ask is a little common courtesy.
