San Marcos
A 34-year-old man was killed Sunday when he lost control of his car and it swerved off the freeway and tumbled down an embankment, authorities said.
Alberto Arriaga of San Marcos was westbound on California 78 at 2:50 a.m. about a quarter of a mile east of Woodland Parkway when the car began to drift toward the road’s right shoulder. The vehicle struck a parked, unoccupied van and plummeted down an embankment. Arriaga was pinned in his car and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
