SIDELINES : Bengals’ Billups Gets Jail Term
CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Lewis Billups was sentenced today to serve 30 days in jail for pointing a gun at two undercover police officers.
But Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Ralph Winkler said Billups will be allowed to serve his jail time after the National Football League season. Billups, 25, a four-year veteran of the Bengals drafted in 1986 from North Alabama, also was fined $1,000.
The judge sentenced Billups to 30 days in jail on each of two misdemeanor charges of aggravated menacing. He is to serve the two sentences concurrently. Billups also was given another 30-day concurrent sentence on a charge of improper handling of a firearm while in a motor vehicle.
All of the charges stemmed from a Jan. 4 incident when two Cincinnati police officers said Billups pointed a pistol at them.
