THE SIDELINES : Eagles’ Allen Not Reinstated

CINCINNATI —  Kevin Allen, a former Philadelphia Eagles tackle jailed 33 months for a sexual assault conviction, has lost his bid to be reinstated by the NFL.

Walter Lesnavich, Allen’s lawyer, said he received Tuesday a copy of Commissioner Paul Tagliabue’s decision rejecting Allen’s request for reinstatement. The NFL said Allen can reapply in March, 1991.

“We’re obviously very disappointed,” Lesnavich said. “But if he complies with everything the commissioner has set down, he’ll be right back there in March, 1991.”

Tagliabue said he wants Allen to obey his parole rules, get therapy for coping with life outside of prison and submit to random drug tests administered by the NFL, Lesnavich said. Allen tested positive for cocaine when he reported to the Eagles’ training camp in 1986, Lesnavich said. The Eagles later released him.

Allen, 27, was released from a New Jersey prison in March.
