Four swimmers from California will compete Thursday through Sunday in the Legion of European Nations Cup in Rome. The swimmers were selected for the U.S. team based on their performances in last week’s U.S. Swimming Long Course National Championships at Austin, Tex.
Keith Frostad of Sacramento, national champion in the 1,500-meter freestyle, will swim in the 1,500 and 400 meters, and Kristine Quance, 15, of Northridge, qualified in the 400 individual medley and the 200 breaststroke after finishing third in both events last week.
Amy Shaw of Mission Viejo earned a berth in the 200 individual medley with her third-place finish at Austin, and teammate Eric Diehl is on the 800-meter freestyle relay team. Mike Chesson of Tarnpure Swim Team and Stanford was named to the coaching staff.
