U.S. Women in Force

WASHINGTON — U.S. military forces sent to Saudi Arabia this week have included women, defense officials said Thursday.
Although federal law bans women from combat, units, the U.S. Central Command said a small number are among noncombat personnel such as medical and headquarters units in Saudi Arabia.
There was no indication that Saudi Arabia, which observes strict Muslim laws on separation of the sexes, will object.
