Soviet Industrial Output Down: Soviet industry, plagued by labor unrest, ethnic conflicts and falling energy output, produced less in the first seven months of 1990 than in the year-ago period, the government newspaper Izvestia said. July’s industrial output declined 0.3% from 1989, while January-July production fell 0.6%, the newspaper said. In the key energy sector, output from the world’s biggest oil producer continued to drop, by 5% for July and the seven-month period, from the comparable 1989 periods.
