PUSHCART POWER: Newport Beach’s Fashion Island shopping center is heading back to the future, combining the century-old concept of a pushcart marketplace with solar power. The center is now previewing a new pushcart with a cash register and lights powered by two solar panels on top of the cart. Designed by Insoltech Solar of Laguna Beach, the cart runs on 36 amps of power, and developers say it can run up to five days without sunlight on energy stored in two batteries.
