The sponsors of the Southern Governors’ Assn. golf tournament in Jackson, Miss., canceled the event a day after the host country club acknowledged that it has no black members and has made no efforts to recruit minorities.

“We have no restrictions with blacks being members, but no blacks have been put up for membership,” said Ross Partridge, president of the Bellwood Country Club. “We’re not knocking the doors down for blacks to join the club, but they’re not knocking down the door to join, either.”
