Kuwaitis to Pay Families of 6 Held Hostage

HOUSTON — Kuwait’s government-in-exile came to the financial rescue of six families of Persian Gulf hostages who are not receiving paychecks from their employer, OGE Drilling Co. based in Midland, Tex.
Officials at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Washington issued a “monetary gift” Tuesday to the families with instructions that the amount not be made public.
Meanwhile, OGE executives said they have come up with about $20,000 as an advance on the hostages’ salaries. The company last week said it had no money to issue checks on a scheduled Sept. 1 payday.
