Smoking Engine Forces Jet to Return to Gate

ROMULUS, Mich. — Pilots on another plane noticed smoke coming from the engine of a Northwest Airlines DC-9 waiting to take off for Dallas Tuesday, and the plane returned to the gate without incident, officials said. The 54 passengers and five crew members were not injured, and they deplaned at the gate.
