Virginia Lakes Enlivened by Private Trout Planting
Fishing is slow at some Eastern Sierra locations, but there are exceptions.
At Virginia Lakes in the Bridgeport area, trout plants of fish between two and five pounds from a private hatchery have supplemented Department of Fish and Game plants, making for excellent fishing.
Meanwhile, fishermen using black nymphs at nearby Lobdell Lake have learned that the grayling season has begun.
“They’re getting a fish per cast, almost,” said Rick Rockel of Ken’s Sporting Goods in Bridgeport.
Lobdell Lake, west of Bridgeport in the Sweetwater Mountains, is California’s only grayling fishery.
