Soviet-Alaska Flights: Alaska Airlines won tentative U.S. approval to begin flying between Anchorage and the Soviet Union on April 1. The Department of Transportation gave the Seattle-based airline one of four new passenger routes negotiated in June between U.S. and Soviet officials. The carrier proposes to operate passenger and freight service between Anchorage and Siberia two or three times weekly.
