Meeting on Proposed UCLA Plant Rescheduled
A committee of the University of California Board of Regents will discuss a proposed power plant at the UCLA campus in Westwood Sept. 19, one day earlier than originally scheduled.
The meeting was moved up in response to complaints that it was on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
“I’m pleased that the regents’ meeting time to review these projects has been changed to accommodate those who are observing religious holidays and would like their comments heard,” said Chancellor Charles E. Young.
Building of the giant “chiller-cogenerator” will be taken up by the Board’s Committee of Buildings and Grounds at 4 p.m. Sept. 19. University officials say the gas-fueled plant is urgently needed, but opponents are worried about its size and possible air pollution.
