2-Day Seminar in Long Beach Will Explore ‘Arthritis in Prime Time’

LONG BEACH--Approximately 300 young adults with arthritis, their family members and health care professionals are expected to attend “Arthritis in Prime Time” on Saturday and Sunday. The first national education symposium sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation Southern California chapter will be held at the Ramada Renaissance Hotel, 111 E. Ocean Blvd.

In addition to educational and medical workshops on treatment, research and lifestyle issues, on Saturday, there will be beauty and grooming tips for the problems caused by arthritis and its medications. One seminar, “Art and Arthritis,” will look at well-known artists with arthritis and their struggles to create despite the pain and crippling.

Father Lawrence Martin Jacob, who was a hostage in Lebanon, will be the keynote speaker kicking off the symposium at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The climax of the symposium on Sunday will be the presentation of the first Victoria Principal award to the actress for her many years of service to the Arthritis Foundation.

“Arthritis in Prime Time” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Registration is $40 for the two days. For more information, contact the Arthritis Foundation’s Southern California Chapter office at 938-6111.
