PLATFORM : MOSQUE DECISION : Council Decision Sets Damaging Precedent
</i>
Whether it’s a dome or unique aspects of a Muslim house of worship, to deny Muslims those aspects of a mosque is to diminish the significance of the freedoms America has always provided for people of diverse faiths.
The pluralism that American democracy encourages and permits is of more enduring value than the needs of aesthetic unity.
It’s therefore regrettable that the City Council has deprived the Muslims of something that is so precious to them.
This action also sets an unfortunate and potentially damaging precedent for people of all faiths. The richness of our country is in its diversity and in the unity that is formed out of free expression of that diversity.
