Libbey Bowl in Ojai will heat up Sunday as the 24th Annual Ojai Valley Mexican Fiesta kicks off to commemorate Mexican Independence Day and to support an educational cause.

Beginning at 11:30 a.m., participants can enjoy entertainment, arts and crafts and plenty of spicy food. All proceeds will benefit the Scholarship Fund, which provides money to students of Mexican-American descent wishing to further their education.

Featured performers will be Mariachi Alma de Mexico, making the stop in Ojai as part of a world tour, and Grupo Folklorico de Tepeyac, donning colorful costumes and entertaining the crowd with their brand of dancing. Booths offering authentic Southwest-style food will be available all day and all sauces, tortillas and guacamole will be made fresh at the site. The event will continue until 5:30 p.m.

Michael on Fire Will Sizzle at Restaurant

T Michael on Fire at The Hungry Hunter in Thousand Oaks? Sure, and the Rolling Stones are playing across the street at Jack In The Box. Only fooling, but MOF will indeed be rocking The Hungry Hunter 9 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday night in September.

Even though we recently lost one Stevie Ray (Vaughan), MOF has his own Stevie Ray (Davis). Both Stevie Rays are in the Texas Guitar Hall of Fame. Anyway, Michael on Fire has about 1,200 original songs. He could play as long as the Grateful Dead, but he probably won’t. This trio, which also includes Tobias on percussion, is probably the best unsigned band around.

It’s worth the drive just to hear them do “Intelligence Ain’t What It Used to Be.” The Hungry Hunter is located at 487 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. No cover charge. Call 497-3925.
