Comedian Rich Hall Heads Benefit for Special Olympics

Rich Hall, comedian and author, will be the star performer at the fourth annual “Bring Hope to Heroes” benefit for Special Olympics beginning at 5 p.m. Sept. 23 at The Hop, 5201 Clark Ave., Lakewood.

Hall, an alumnus of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” has written five collections of “Sniglets,” words that should be in the dictionary, but aren’t, and “Vanishing America,” a cross-country odyssey through the United States. Hall is pictured at right on his cross-country journey a few years ago, a trip that resulted in a book and television special.

Other performers include Tasha Scott of “Troop Beverly Hills,” magician Stan Allen, singer and actress Holly Fields of NBC’s “Hull High,” the “Kids Unlimited” dance revue and The Hop’s own “Rock Around the Clock Show.”

All proceeds for the show directly benefit Long Beach and Southeast Los Angeles chapters of the Special Olympics. Presented by Jones Intercable of Lakewood, the “Bring Hope to Heroes” show has raised more than $15,000 during the last three years for Special Olympics.

Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 at the door, and are available through TicketMaster, The Hop, Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, Jones Intercable, Tower Records and Hair Fixers in Lakewood.
