Ocean Beach to Stay Closed for Sewage Spill
County health officials allowed swimming off Mission Beach on Saturday, but Ocean Beach was expected to remain closed at least until Monday because of a 50,000-gallon sewage spill Friday.
The partially treated sewage entered the San Diego River flood channel after a 3-inch by 8-inch hole broke in the line, authorities said.
By mid-day Saturday, the water off both South Mission Beach and Mission Beach was declared safe for swimmers. But health authorities said the water between Del Monte Avenue and the Mission Bay channel still remained too contaminated for water contact.
