Rancho Alamitos 28, Costa Mesa 0--Quarterback Chris Singletary completed his first two passes for touchdowns to lead the Vaqueros at Newport Harbor High.
Singletary, who completed seven of 11 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns, connected with Marshall Brown for a 75 yard touchdown on Rancho Alamitos’ first play. On the second play of the next series, Singletary passed to Eric Moore for a 38-yard touchdown that made it 13-0 with 6:54 left in the first quarter. The extra point was missed.
Rancho Alamitos’ defense limited Costa Mesa (1-1) to 59 yards in the second half.
Ulysses Trammell led the Rancho Alamitos rushing attack, gaining 83 yards in 17 carries and scoring one touchdown, a six-yard run in the third quarter. Singletary, who also gained 54 yards in five carries, added a third-quarter, 22-yard touchdown pass to Sean Hall to close the scoring.
