San Diego State placed second in the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference Track Championships at the Encino Velodrome. California won the event.
SDSU’s Debra Gunnerson finished second overall among women racers and was second in both the pursuit and points races. Julie Allen-Snell was third overall and second in the match sprints event. Stephanie Lucero finished third in three events. For the men, Craig Workman was third in the pursuit race.
MEN’S SOCCER
Sixteenth-ranked Washington came back from a 1-0 deficit to beat San Diego State, 2-1, in overtime at the Aztec Bowl. Jason Ferrell scored the winning goal 12 minutes into overtime.
SDSU (4-2) took a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the second half on Brian Craft-Negrete’s header. Washington (4-0-2) tied it 12 minutes later on a goal by Brent Aune.
The University of San Diego improved to 4-0-3 with a 1-0 victory over Cal State Northridge at the USD Soccer Complex. Junior forward Paul Gelvezon (Mira Mesa High) scored with an assist from freshman midfielder Toby Taitano (Valhalla). Freshman goalie Tom Tate (USDHS) got his third shutout.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
U.S. International settled for a 2-2 overtime tie after San Francisco State scored with four minutes left in regulation at USIU. USIU (2-2-1) got goals from Kelly Pietila and Nicky Roche. Jennifer Womack assisted on both.
MEN’S WATER POLO
UC San Diego lost to Cal State Los Angeles, 9-7, in their final match in the UC Irvine Tournament. Micheal Schatz and Andrew Steinheimer scored two goals each for the Tritons, who finished the tournament 0-5.
