Orange Lutheran 21, Cathedral 19--Phil Matheson intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown with 4:03 remaining to lead Orange Lutheran (4-0) to victory at Cathedral. It was Matheson’s fifth interception of the season and Orange Lutheran’s fourth interception of the day.
Lee Back and Brandon Orman paced Orange Lutheran, which had to run the ball when starting quarterback Len Gavin was knocked out of the game just before halftime. Back gained 59 yards in four carries, including a 35-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Orman had 86 yards in 11 carries, which included runs of 15, 16, 22 and 10 yards. Orman started the scoring for Orange Lutheran with a six-yard run in the second quarter.
Matheson took over for Gavin at quarterback and completed his only attempt for minus one yard. Cathedral drops to 1-3.
In an eight-man nonleague game:
Liberty Christian 38, Perris Temple Christian 8--Gabe Baltodano rushed for 95 yards and scored one touchdown and ran in two conversions to lead Liberty Christian (3-1). Jeremy Anderson had 43 yards and Toby Sexton had 55 yards rushing for Liberty Christian.
