He’s a Good Man: Charlie Brown birthday parties are being held throughout the country today in honor of the 40th anniversary of the comic strip “Peanuts.” The local celebration at the County Museum of Natural History features an exhibit that premiered at the Louvre in Paris last January. It contains original artwork by cartoonist Charles Schulz and excerpts from the “Peanuts” television shows. There also will be a jazz concert at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and a special exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. “Peanuts” made its debut in seven newspapers on Oct. 2, 1950. Today the strip runs in 2,300 newspapers and reaches more than 200 million readers a day.
