Fans in Riot at Clapton Show
MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay — Hundreds of rock fans fought with riot police in Montevideo Wednesday night after being locked out of a concert at which English guitarist Eric Clapton was performing, witnesses said.
Five policemen were hospitalized and 50 arrests made, according to a police report. Eyewitnesses said at least 12 civilians were injured in the fray outside the football stadium while an audience of 30,000 listened to the show.
Among those arrested were three journalists sent to cover the event. Their cameras and tape recorders were confiscated.
Clapton is on a tour of several South American countries.
