Garcia Kick Returns Lead Anaheim
ANAHEIM — Che Garcia scored on a 75-yard kickoff return in the first half and returned a second-half kickoff 47 yards to set up the winning touchdown as Anaheim High School beat Buena Park, 20-16, in a nonleague game at Glover Stadium Friday night.
Garcia, a 5-foot-6, 135-pound running back, took the opening kickoff 75 yards to give Anaheim (2-3) a 7-0 lead.
But Buena Park’s defense held Anaheim quarterback Phillip Covarrubias to eight yards in the first quarter and sacked him five times and the Coyotes (2-3) scored twice in the second quarter. Quarterback Mark Medellin first connected with Angel Barrios on a touchdown pass and then hit Dion Green in the end zone to give the Coyotes a 14-7 lead.
In the second half, Anaheim’s Julio Langarcia added two field goals, from 34 and 21 yards out, to spark the comeback by the Colonists.
Say Iemsisanith’s scored on a two-yard run after Garcia’s second long kickoff return to lift Anaheim to the victory.
