Andino Wins Florida Surfing Contest
San Clemente’s Dino Andino won his first Professional Surfing Assn. of America event of 1990, the Op East Surfing Championship in Sebastian Inlet, Fla., Sunday to increase his lead in the overall standings with one event remaining.
Andino, who has finished second at three tour events this season and has been the overall runner-up three times in his career, defeated Charlie Kuhn of Indian Harbor, Fla., in Sunday’s final to win $7,200. Kuhn, who earned $3,600, is in second place in the overall standings.
In Sunday’s finals, Shane Beschen and Jim Hogan, both of San Clemente, finished tied for fifth place, and Matt Archbold of San Clemente and Joe McNulty of Capistrano Beach tied for seventh.
Andino has 6,881 overall points and Kuhn 6,453 heading into the final event of the PSAA season--the Budweiser Championships Oct. 31-Nov. 4 at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
