Pair of CS Northridge Football Players to Face Charges Stemming From Fight

Two Cal State Northridge football players will appear in separate divisions of San Fernando Municipal Court today in connection with a brawl outside an on-campus apartment.

Ken Jackson, 21, a reserve defensive tackle, faces a preliminary hearing on charges of felony battery stemming from a Sept. 14 altercation with campus police and security officers outside the University Park Complex.

Jackson allegedly punched Marlin Hines, a campus security officer, and pushed Mike Kaufman, a resident dormitory adviser, in an incident that, according to police, started when Kaufman asked Jackson and Tom Berry to stop drinking beer in front of the apartment.

Berry, 23, scheduled for arraignment on a misdemeanor charge today, allegedly wrestled with Hines and resisted attempts by police to break up the altercation.

Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound junior from Stockton, has been temporarily suspended from the football team by Coach Bob Burt pending the outcome of the hearing. Berry, a 6-4, 260-pound senior co-captain for Northridge, has started at defensive tackle in every game this season.
