Canadiens Down Capitals, 3-1
MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens rebounded from two losses over the weekend to register a 3-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Monday night.
Guy Carbonneau and Mike McPhee gave the Canadiens, who lost consecutive games to the New York Rangers and Hartford, a 2-0 lead after two periods.
Dale Hunter scored early in the third period for the Capitals, but Montreal’s Brian Skrudland scored his fourth goal of the season to restore the two-goal margin.
The struggling Montreal power play, with a pathetic 8.3% success rate going into the game, did not have a shot in its first two of four opportunities and is on an 0-for-18 run extending over four games and is two for 28 this season.
