Flutist Emily Lin, 16, of Placentia, bassist Brent Simmons, 17, of Placentia and William Shieh, 17, of Villa Park were picked as finalists from a field of 20 players Tuesday at the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition at Chapman College in Orange. Each will be a featured soloist with the orchestra at Chapman: Lin on Dec. 9, Simmons on March 3 and Shieh on May 4. Violinists Cathy Kim, 16, of Anaheim and Michi Wiancko, 15, of San Clemente were semi-finalists.
