THE SIDELINES : Walsh to Start at QB for Saints
NEW ORLEANS — Quarterback Steve Walsh, who played in his first game for the New Orleans Saints last weekend, will start Sunday against the Oilers in Houston.
Walsh “played well Sunday and he deserves to start,” Coach Jim Mora said.
Walsh, who took over from starter John Fourcade in the second period against Cleveland with the score tied 3-3, completed 15 of 26 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns. The Saints won, 25-20.
New Orleans obtained Walsh from Dallas last month in a trade for draft picks. He started five games for Dallas in his rookie season last year.
“I feel capable of taking over the starting job,” Walsh said. “I don’t doubt that I’ll feel more comfortable as the weeks go by.”
Fourcade said he wasn’t surprised. “It’s a business decision,” he said. “I understand that. The issue was really settled when they traded for him.”
