OXNARD : Woman Arrested in Theft, Boy’s Kidnap
Cheryl Renae Dawson, 20, of Oxnard was arrested Thursday in connection with the kidnaping of a 6-month-old child and on suspicion of grand theft, police said.
The child, Steven Burton, was safely returned to his grandmother, Margaret Lewis, 46, Thursday afternoon by a woman she didn’t know after he was missing overnight, Oxnard police said.
Lewis had left the child in Dawson’s care Wednesday night, and when she returned at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, the child was missing along with Lewis’ television set, microwave and video recorder, police said.
The child’s parents are in the U.S. Army and are stationed in Germany.
