Daniel Guilet; Beaux Arts Trio Violinist, NBC Orchestra Concertmaster

Daniel Guilet, 91, a violinist who was concertmaster of the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Arturo Toscanini and a founding member of the Beaux Arts Trio. Guilet studied at the Paris Conservatory and toured France with composer Maurice Ravel. He joined the NBC Orchestra in 1944 and seven years later became concertmaster. He formed the Guilet Quartet in 1942, which came to be highly regarded for its interpretations of 19th- and 20th-Century Romantic works. Earlier in his career he had performed as a soloist with Ravel as his accompanist. He left the NBC Orchestra after Toscanini’s retirement in 1954. That same year he formed the Beaux Arts Trio with pianist Menahem Pressler and cellist Bernard Greenhouse. He retired in 1969. The trio remains among the most prominent in the chamber music world. On Oct. 14 in New York City of a cerebral hemorrhage.
