California-based 4-year-old Fly Till Dawn, normally a pace-setter, laid back under jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. until the stretch before taking over to win the biggest payday of his career, the $750,000 Grade I Budweiser International at Laurel Race Course in Maryland. It was his fifth victory in 18 career starts.
Fly Till Dawn, who had been running in allowance races as late as July, covered 1 1/4 miles in 2:01 1/5 to win by 1 1/4 lengths. He won $385,000 and paid $36.20, $12.20 and $5.40.
