Tekelec Says 3rd-Quarter Profit Increased 74%
Tekelec, a Calabasas maker of testing equipment for the telecommunications industry, said its third-quarter profit surged 74% from a year earlier on a 26% increase in revenue.
In the quarter that ended Sept. 30, Tekelec’s net income rose to $1.28 million from $735,000 a year earlier, and its revenue climbed to $10.4 million from $8.22 million. The company attributed the gains to strong demand for its equipment and an expanded product line.
In the first nine months of this year, Tekelec’s profit rose to $3.65 million from $2.54 million a year earlier, and its nine-month revenue climbed to $29.8 million from $25.6 million.
Separately, Tekelec said it completed the previously announced acquisition of Hard Engineering, a Huntsville, Ala., producer of testing equipment, for $3 million and the assumption of $1 million of Hard’s debts.
