SHORT TAKES : Marshall’s Visit Marred by Fire
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Actor Peter Marshall’s return to his hometown Wednesday was marked by sirens, fire trucks and crowds in the streets.
Marshall’s wife was among about 300 guests who were forced to evacuate the Radisson Hotel for about an hour when a fire broke out in an unoccupied second-floor room.
There were no injuries.
Marshall, former host of the television game show “The Hollywood Squares,” was in Huntington for a Wednesday night performance of the Neil Simon play “Rumors.”
After finding out about the fire when he returned from an interview at a radio station, Marshall raced to the eighth floor to get his wife, Laurie, and their 5 1/2-month-old Cairn terrier, Casey.
Marshall said members of the play’s crew were forced to wait outside the hotel while firefighters worked on the fire.
