SIMI VALLEY : School Candidates to Debate Tonight
Candidates for the Simi Valley Unified School District Board of Education will have a chance to debate at a forum tonight.
All five candidates have said they will attend the 7:30 p.m. forum, sponsored by the Simi Valley PTA Council and the Simi Valley-Moorpark chapter of the League of Women Voters, organizers said.
The forum will be held in the multipurpose room at Sequoia Junior High School, 3570 Cochran St.
Each candidate will deliver a five-minute opening statement, followed by written questions from the audience, said Janice DiFatta, PTA council president. The questions will be screened by a four-person panel.
The question and answer period will conclude about 10 p.m. with a two-minute statement by the candidates.
School board candidates vying for two seats are incumbent Lewis Roth; Doug Crosse, a semi-retired owner of an alarm system business; Carla Kurachi, a counselor; Donald Otto, owner of a local warehouse distribution business, and Karolyn J. Searight, head bookkeeper for a printing company. School board President Helen Beebe is not seeking reelection.
