COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : USC : Cal Hopes to Get Trojans on the Run
In its fourth season under Coach Bruce Snyder, who coached running backs at USC for two seasons under John McKay, California has developed a strong running game.
The Golden Bears, who will play USC Saturday at the Coliseum, average 202.8 yards on the ground and rank third in the Pacific 10 Conference. Tailbacks Russell White and Anthony Wallace rank second and third in the conference, respectively, with averages of 92.1 yards and 91.4.
In his two seasons at USC, Snyder coached Anthony Davis, who rushed for 1,421 yards in the 1974 season, and Ricky Bell, who ran for 1,957 in 1975.
