NATION IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Storm Hits Rockies; East Turns Balmy
A winter storm chilled mountains in the West with snow and high winds while Indian summer warmed the Midwest and most of the East. Snow blanketed the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho as temperatures plummeted in one of the first severe storms of the season. Some mountains were expected to get several feet of snow by the time the storm ended over the weekend. Meanwhile, record warm weather came to places like Huron, S.D., where temperatures rose to 78 degrees,breaking by 1 degree a 103-year-old record. The warmth stretched to the East Coast.
