STATE : Yosemite Storm Warning Issued
The National Weather Service today issued its first winter storm watch of the season for areas north of Yosemite National Park and above 7,000 feet elevation.
As rain spread into northwestern California this morning, the weather service said the weather system was expected to reach the northern Sierra Nevada tonight.
Up to 12 inches of snow was expected above 7,000 feet in the Sierra by late tonight and Wednesday, forecasters said.
The snow level was expected to fall from above 8,000 feet to about 5,000 feet near Mt. Lassen by Wednesday morning, and to about 7,000 feet near Yosemite by the afternoon.
The snow will turn to showers and taper off by Wednesday afternoon, forecasters said. Gusty southwest winds to 40 m.p.h. were expected over the higher passes and peaks.
