A man police say may be responsible for nine waterfront hotel robberies was arrested early Tuesday on Shelter Island after the knifepoint robbery of the desk clerk at the Kona Inn.

Michael Glen Armour, 31, of San Diego, was apprehended by Harbor Police who spotted him running a short distance from the hotel.

Armour was turned over to San Diego police and was being held in County Jail.

The Kona Inn robbery happened about 2:20 a.m. It was not known how much money was taken.

Police are investigating the possibility that Armour was the bandit who has robbed nine hotels along Harbor Drive and on Shelter Island since Oct. 23. In each case the bandit was armed with a knife.
