HARTFORD, Conn. — Murray Williams’ driving layup with one second left gave No. 17 Connecticut an 82-81 exhibition victory over the Soviet Nationals on Tuesday night.
Williams took a three-quarter-floor-length pass from Scott Burrell, turned and drove for the winning basket.
Gutars Vetra hit a 3-point shot with three seconds left as the Soviets hit nine 3-pointers in the second half to come back from a 19-point first-half deficit to take a 81-80 lead.
Rod Sellers led the Huskies with 24 points and Chris Smith added 18.
Sergei Bazarevich led the Soviets with 26 points and Vetra had 24, 18 in the second half.
