Burglary Suspect Slain on Campus
A car burglary suspect was shot to death Tuesday night at California State University, Northridge, while struggling with a campus police officer for the officer’s pistol, authorities reported.
Campus police declined to discuss the shooting, but Los Angeles Police Sgt. Ted Demaegt said it took place about 7 p.m. in a campus parking lot where the officer was investigating a car burglary.
“During the investigation, a suspect grabbed the officer’s firearm, causing it to discharge,” he said. “The suspect sustained a single gunshot wound and died at the scene.”
The name of the dead man, who was about 20, was withheld pending notification of relatives.
