MOORPARK : First Elected Mayor Takes Office Tonight
City Councilman Paul Lawrason will be sworn in tonight as Moorpark’s first elected mayor.
Lawrason, who has served on the council since 1988, beat fellow Councilman Clint Harper for the mayor’s post in the Nov. 6 election.
Planning Commission Chairman John Wozniak, who defeated Councilwoman Eloise Brown, will also take the oath of office tonight. The ceremonies will take place during the council’s regular meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Community Center.
The council will then consider appointing an interim member to fill Lawrason’s vacant council position, which expires in 1992. That person would remain until a special election is called to fill the position, Deputy City Clerk Dot Vandaveer said. The earliest date that the council could call a special election is March 5, she said.
